About this place
Few dining rituals are as satisfying as grilling seasoned meat over an open flame and enjoying each bite straight from the dipping sauce alongside a bowl of steamed white rice. Located in Kisshoin Shimizucho, Kyoto's Minami Ward, Akachochin offers a comprehensive yakiniku menu featuring staple cuts like harami (skirt steak), kalbi (short rib), and special prime loin, alongside a varied selection of offal that includes agi (beef jaw), superior mino (first stomach), grilled senmai (third stomach), and urute (trachea cartilage). Each cut can be matched with distinct sauces, from rich, seasoned marinades and a punchy garlic salt dip to a refreshing arai-dare ("washing sauce") that cuts through the richness of heavily seasoned meats.
The side dishes provide thoughtful contrast between servings of grilled meat. Choregi salads can be ordered with a choice of leafy Korean lettuce, crisp mizuna, or shredded daikon radish, lending a fresh bite to the meal. For a hearty finish, the kitchen prepares standard rice along with stone-grilled bibimbap, classic bibimbap, gukbap, and comforting egg ojiya porridge. The soup selection is equally expansive, spanning familiar bowls like wakame seaweed and egg soup to distinctive regional choices such as sardine soup and loach soup.
Dinner service begins at 17:00, accompanied by a well-rounded drink menu featuring draft beer, large bottled beers, makgeolli, and shochu to complement the grilled fare. With a dedicated free parking lot on site, the restaurant provides an accommodating setting for relaxed evening gatherings with friends or family around the grill.
